150th Edition of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show
The 150th edition of America’s most famous dog show starts this month on Saturday, January 31 and continues on Monday, February 2 and Tuesday, February 3.
Daytime sessions are being held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Manhattan’s far West Side; the evening sessions will be held at Madison Square Garden.
10th Annual NY Dog Film Festival
The tenth edition on the NY Dog Film Festival takes place on Saturday, October 26 at Symphony Space in Manhattan.
According to festival organizers: “Audiences will enjoy dozens of touching, inspiring short films – narrative, documentary, and animated – from around the world, while contributing directly to the welfare of vulnerable animals by supporting organizations such as Animal Lighthouse Rescue.”
I recently had a chance to sit down with Tracie Hotchner, the festival’s founder and director, for a chat.
New York City Halloween Dog Parades and Parties
Halloween is a big time for folks who love to dress their dogs up in costumes!
New York City has been home to one of the biggest Halloween costume dog parades in the world for 34 years: the Tompkins Square Dog Parade. Will there be a 35th edition?

Comic Book Dog Breeds
Shortly after the new Superman movie came out, the organizers of the dog meetups at Hudson Yards in Manhattan staged a Krypto look-a-like contest. Seeing all the different types of dogs entered had me wondering what breed of dog Krypto and his canine comic book colleagues actually are.

Hypertrophic osteodystrophy is an autoinflammatory disease that affects rapidly growing puppies. Inflammatory disorders are diseases where the immune system attacks the body's own cells or tissues and causes abnormal inflammation. Mild cases can last a few days; more serious ones can last for months.
